Kohima, Oct. 29 (EMN): The 18th biennial conference of the All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) will be held from Nov. 8 to the 11th. The event will be conducted at Fazl Ali College in Mokokochung district. The conference is set to be conducted with the theme “synergizing young mind.”
For the introductory session, Nov. 8 evening, the deputy commissioner of Mokokchung Sushil Kumar Patel will be the special guest. On the 9th, morning, Chief Minister TR Zeliang will attend the function as its chief guest.
The convenor of the organisation’s organizing committee N Ejanthung Ngullie addressed a press conference at the ANSCU’s office in Kohima town. The former general secretary of the Naga Students’ Federation hoped that the conference would bring an impact in ‘synergizing young minds.’ He said the theme was chosen for students to ‘explore the creative powers of the young mind.’
Ngullie informed also that the organisation will introduce a student-of-the year award for every college. The award will be based on their creativity skills, and not only on academic performance, it was informed.
The ANCSU has requested affiliated colleges to delegate at least 25 students from each institution. The organisation said to be expecting around 1, 000 students from 40 affiliated colleges in and around Nagaland for the general conference.
Among other events, the conference will be marked by a programme called “act on Clean Election” by St. Joseph College in Kohima. Rev. Dr. Mar Atsongchanger, executive secretary of the ABAM (Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang) and coordinator of the clean election for the Nagaland Baptist Church Council will speak.
Further, an assembly session will be conducted during which students’ grievances will be raised and discussed, and resolutions taken accordingly, the ANCSU officials said.
This year, the union introduces extempore speech and painting competitions to mark the occasion. The organizing committee will award a trophy with a citation to the ‘best disciplined’ college during the biennial conference.
Further, the election to the organisation’s executive council and assembly officials for the year 2017-19 will be conducted during the general conference.
The parliamentary secretary for Technical Education N Thomas Ngullie be the special guest for literary session; Dr. Limaakum Jamir, mission director of the NHM for the academic session; parliamentary secretary for Social Welfare Merentoshi R. Jamir will be the guest of honour for the valedictory session.
A talent night featuring music, drama, dance, and choreography; comedy and ethnic events has been scheduled for Nov. 10 evening as the conclusion to the biennial conference, it was informed.
