Dimapur, March 26 (EMN): The All Nagaland College Students Union (ANCSU) has appealed to the Higher Education department and banks to expedite depositing the scholarship funds to the beneficiaries before the forthcoming semester and pre-university examinations scheduled to be conducted from April 5. ANCSU has made this appeal during a meeting with the Dimapur based units on March 25 at Eastern Christian College, Dimapur, which was attended by 15 affiliated colleges. The meeting was held in regard to PMS payment for the year 2016-2017. It was reported that 11335 students from 69 institutions in Dimapur were not paid their scholarship. Following news report from the finance department on March 24 that an amount of INR seven crores and seventy one lakhs has been released, ANCSU has decided to keeps its course of action in abeyance. Also in view of the upcoming semester examination, ANCSU- after much deliberation- resolved to let the colleges/institutions function smoothly. ANCSU general secretary, Vimeyiekho Vitso, and the vice president and chairman of grievances committee, Benjong Longchar, have affirmed to remain vigilant on the matter until justice is restored. Meanwhile, ANCSU has applauded the chief minister for the alternative arrangement made for the payment while anticipating the amount from the ministry. It was of the opinion that the same arrangement could have been made earlier before any arguments took place in any manner. In the light of the above stated development, ANCSU has also appealed the higher education department and respective banks to expedite the process in depositing the scholarship amount to the beneficiaries before the upcoming semester and pre-university examinations scheduled from April 5.
