U-turn comes in the backdrop of a meeting between ANCSU members and Nagaland government officials on May 21
Dimapur, May 24 (EMN): The threat to boycott the Lok Sabha by-election appears to have done the trick for the All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU)—they were granted audience by top officials of Nagaland government on May 21.
A press release from the union on Thursday informed that the chief secretary of the state had convened a meeting among the union members and ‘other government officials’ on May 21 to ‘discuss and deliberate’ the charter of demands placed by the ANCSU.
“In regard to the land encroachment issue, the government has called a review meeting on 27th of June 2018 to study the report and progress made by the district administration as proper survey and identification of illegal land encroachers is to be made through legal proceedings. The state government agreed to constitute a committee and bring out the modalities in setting up a nodal cell/department for all scholarship schemes."
In regard to the issue of assigning teachers to 'VIP', it was informed that the government has assured the organisation action on the matter.
“While the government has vowed to immediately stop the policy of attaching teachers with VIPs. The state government also agreed to take strict action against those teachers who has (sic) been detached and still not in the posted institutions as per the 31st October 2017 office order,” it informed.
Out of the 523 teachers ‘detached,’ according to the ANCSU, “25 parties (single / group)” have filed case against the state government at the Gauhati High Court.
The union has decided to call off the boycott of the elections in the light of the assurance from the state government, it informed.
