The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) will hold its 17th Biennial General Conference during October 21-24 under the theme ‘Excel beyond Boundary’. More than 1000 students from colleges across the state are expected to participate in the four-day event.
Announcing this to media persons at the ANCSU office premises in Kohima Wednesday evening, the union president Tsukjem Longkumer said the conference will be seminar oriented, with the objective to create a productive event and also to give a platform to talented students. He said there will be two consecutive academic sessions at the conference, the first of which will have four resource persons from Hyderabad who will deliver intense discourse on Chartered Accountancy, a field that Nagas are yet to take up despite its importance.
The second academic session will have former Chief Secretary, Alemtemshi Jamir who will be exhorting the students on the theme of the conference.The president also informed that an assembly session will also be held wherein students’ grievances will be raised and discussed, and resolutions will be taken accordingly.
Organizing committee convener, Kelhouneizo Yhome while highlighting the programme of the conference, pointed out that ANCSU is a unique body which does not have any tribal inclination as it works for the welfare of all the students, including Nagas and non-Nagas, who are studying in its 36 affiliated colleges in the state.
He informed that there will be an essay competition on ‘Professionalism and Hardwork towards achieving Sustainable Economy’ for which all the ANCSU affiliated colleges have been requested to send one student to participate. The prizes for the competition is said to be sponsored by the Nagaland Contractors and Suppliers’ Union (NCSU) and the first prize carries a cash award of Rs.15000 while the second and third place winners will get Rs.10000 and Rs.5000 respectively.
Explaining the theme of the conference, he said it was chosen in view of the need for young students of Nagaland to explore beyond comfortable boundaries and strive to excel in fields that are generally assumed out of reach.
ANCSU has asked all the affiliated colleges to delegate at least 25 students each to attend the conference. Further, it has directed the affiliated college units to come with qualified intending candidate(s) for ANCSU office bearers election 2015-17 with recommendation letter from respective students’ union and college authority.
The inaugural function will be attended by Home minister Y Patton as the chief guest and parliamentary secretary for Higher & Technical Education Deo Nukhu; MLA and NSMDC Ltd. Chairman, Neiphrezo Keditsu will be the cultural guest and Higher Education director Chubatola Longkumer will be the introductory guest; and the valedictory programme will be graced by minister for Rural Development CL John as the chief guest and advisor & senior principal secretary to Chief Minister, Lalthara will be the guest of honour.
