- DIMAPUR — The All
Nagaland Counselors' Association (ANCA) has apprised Nagaland Governor, La.
Ganesan, on the need of professionally trained counselors in every school to
cater to the needs of personal, social, career development, academic progress
and mental emotional well-being of the students.
- The association made this recommendation during a discussion
with the governor on Tuesday at Raj Bhavan in Kohima.
- An update from ANCA stated that the members expressed the
need of professional role of counselors to cater to the needs of mental and
emotional well-being of the people particularly the students and children in
the increasing complexities and stresses of modern day living during the
discussion.
- It also impressed the governor to take necessary steps to
address the needs for vocational guidance and career counseling so as to
respond to the increasing unemployment crisis among the educated unemployed
youth in the state.
- The association proposed to launch various programmes like
training of teachers on counseling, career counseling, vocational guidance,
training programme on mental health, alternative therapies and AYUSH, family
counseling and development of resource material on counseling.
- It stated that the governor was impressed with the
discussion and assured the association to extend all possible help to ensure
that counseling services for students are available in all higher secondary
schools in Nagaland.
- Team of ANCA officials was led by its president. Dr. Zavise
Rume. Other members present at the discussion included Dr. George Rino,
counselor and coordinator of PG Studies at St. Joseph College, Jakhama;
Medemmongla Jamir, reader at SCERT and member of ANCA; Kelengunu Thakro,
counselor at St. Joseph University, Chümoukedima; Lovitoli Awomi, counseling
psychologist at Lapiye Centre for Mental Wellbeing and member of ANCA; and Dr.
Thebi Joseph Shupao, assistant professor at SCERT Nagaland and member of ANCA.
