Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to visit Manipur later this month for a medical college foundation and project review.

IMPHAL, OCT. 6 (EMN) — Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to visit Manipur later this month, although the exact date of his visit has not yet been finalised, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a press conference at the Ministers’ Block of the New Secretariat in Imphal, Khemchand said the proposed visit would include the foundation stone-laying ceremony for a medical college in Senapati district and a review of developmental projects in the state.
The press conference was held primarily to highlight the state Cabinet’s decision to express gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on completing 25 years of public service.
The Cabinet also thanked the Prime Minister for the attention given to Manipur and the Northeast. A Cabinet resolution conveying the sentiments is to be sent to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Khemchand, along with government spokespersons Th Radheshyam and Dr. S Ranjan Singh, highlighted various development projects and initiatives undertaken in the state.
Radheshyam said the arrival of trains in Manipur in 2022, construction of the world’s tallest railway pier bridge at Noney, sanctioning of around 1,100 km of National Highways at a cost of INR 16,000 crore, and approval for fencing along 240 km of the India-Myanmar border at INR 3,223 crore were among the major developments.
He also highlighted the establishment of the National Sports University and the first medical college in the hill districts, extension of the Inner Line Permit system to Manipur in 2019, and the peace agreement signed with the proscribed UNLF in November 2023.
Dr. Ranjan said rural tap-water coverage had increased from 6% to 80%, while around 14 lakh people had been covered under Ayushman Bharat during the period under discussion.
The Chief Minister later shared photographs of the Cabinet meeting on X and said the Cabinet had resolved to express its “heartfelt gratitude” to Prime Minister Modi for completing 25 years of public service and for his contribution to the development of the nation and welfare of its citizens.
