The ambulance for the ESI Scheme Dispensary in Dimapur Nagaland was officially launched on April 1 by L Nungshiyanger Aier, Labour Commissioner of Nagaland at the premise of the ESI empanelled hospital Dimapur Hospital & Research Centre (DHRC), Dimapur.
Dr. Z. Kheshito Zhimo, Administrative Medical Officer of the ESI Scheme Dispensary who presided over a simple function to mark the event gave a brief introduction of the scheme. While addressing the gathering, the Lcbour commissioner emphasized that the ambulance was for the sole service of Insured Persons and their families enrolled under the ESI Scheme and would be free of charge in Dimapur.
The Employees of the State Insurance Scheme provide for free medical care to workers of factories and other establishments earning less than 15, 000 per month. The ESI ambulance has been launched to further extend this free medical service to the workers insured under the scheme. Insured persons under the ESI Scheme are informed to avail the opportunity in times of emergencies. To avail the ambulance service, they may contact the number 03862-242716.Benefits extended to the IPs include Sickness Benefit, Disablement Benefit, Dependants’ Benefit, Maternity Benefit and Medical Benefit. The ESI Scheme is financed by contributions from employers and employees.
The rate of contribution by employer is 4.75% and that of the employees’ contribution is at the rate of 1.75% of the wages payable to employees. Any factory or establishment having 10 or more workers are mandatory to register under ESI. Presently this Scheme is implemented only in parts of Dimapur District but proposed to be extended shortly to all areas of Dimapur District.
