- DIMAPUR — The
Amahator Range Students' Union (ARSU) has detected discrepancies in schools and
health centres and appealed to the concerned departments particularly the
department of School Education and the Health and Family Welfare to urgently
look into those problems.
- The union made those observations during its two-day visit
to schools and primary health centres (PHC) under Amahator range on April 2 and
3. The tour was undertaken with a purpose to check the condition of educational
and healthcare facilities and to understand the challenges faced by students
and the public.
- An update from the union stated that that many teachers were
found absent from duty, even though the Smile App attendance system has been
introduced to monitor teachers' presence. It added that absence of teachers has
affected regular classes and the learning of students.
- The team also noticed a serious shortage of subject
teachers, especially in Science and Hindi. It found that many schools do not
have enough qualified teachers for those subjects, which is a major concern for
the future of students appearing for board exams.
- It was also observed that some teachers have not yet joined
their respective schools, even though the new academic session has already
started. It stated that the delay in joining has further worsened the situation
in schools.
- During a visit to PHC at Amahator, the union found that
there was no doctor present. There was also a shortage of nurses and staff,
which is affecting the delivery of basic health services to the public.
- The union claimed that people are forced to travel long
distances to seek medical help in case of emergencies.
- At Government High School (GHS) Kichang, the union found
that post of assistant headmaster (AHM) was lying vacant. It stated that the
absence of leadership in the school is affecting administration and overall
functioning.
- The union has appealed to the concerned departments,
especially the department of School Education and the department of Health and
Family Welfare, to urgently look into those problems.
- The union further requested the government to fill the
vacant posts and ensure regular attendance of teachers and medical staff so
that students and citizens of the range received proper education and
healthcare.
