DIMAPUR — The Ao
Lanur Telongjem (ALT) has demanded the State government to set up a fire
station in Mangkolemba sub-division in Mokokchung district at the earliest.
ALT has sympathised with the fire victims at Mangkolemba
where a devastating fire destroyed five private residences, two shops and
adjoining godowns in the town on December 8.
It asserted that the fire incident has revealed the utter
neglect of the sub-division by the successive government over so many years
that even basic public utility like the fire station was not in place.
It mentioned that Mangkolemba is not only one of the oldest
and important sub-divisions in Mokokchung district but also the headquarters of
three ranges. It pointed out that the recent fire incident would not have had
such devastation had there been a fire brigade.
In light of the above stated circumstances, ALT has strongly
demanded the government to set up a fire station immediately.
With the onset of dry season, it stated that such fire
incidents might likely occur time and again.
Stating that it is imperative for Mangkolemba sub-division
to have a fire station apart from other amenities, ALT expressed hope that the
government would positively respond to their genuine demand and initiate the
works on priority basis.
ALT further urged upon the concerned authority to provide
compensation to the fire victims so that their loss and misery could be
alleviated to some extent.
