
DIMAPUR — Minister of Tourism and Higher Education, Temjen Imna Along, has underscored the importance of unity and collective efforts in promoting Naga heritage and fostering a brighter future for the state and its people.
Along stated this during the three-day extended Hornbill Festival at Zunheboto public ground on Friday, organised by Sumi Youth Organisation in collaboration with Tourism department and other civil society organisations of town. He emphasised the significance of the Hornbill Festival in promoting Naga heritage and fostering a sense of shared identity among the Naga people.
"The Hornbill Festival is not just about celebrating tradition and culture, but about showcasing Naga heritage, arts, skills and ideology with a focus on partnership with the global community," Along said.
He appealed to the Sumi Hoho and other frontal organisations to support Sumi Youth Organisation in celebrating bigger events, promoting cultural exchange and preserving unique culture and traditions. He also encouraged exploring and experiencing the living culture outside of Nagaland, fostering a sense of shared identity among the Naga people.
Along also encouraged making a networking to showcase and explore local indigenous handicrafts of Sumi tribe to exchange with other communities. He further emphasised the need to explore outside and experience the living culture of outside, promoting cultural exchange and understanding.
Kikheto Muru, vice president of Sumi Hoho, stated that Hornbill Festival has produced many talented local artistes in the field of music. He added that tourism industry in Nagaland has been immensely encouraged only after the introduction of Hornbill Festival.
He stated that educated youths are venturing into hospitality industry though in small ways. He added that the Tourism department has registered some 15 homestays in Zunheboto town alone.
The deputy commissioner of Zunheboto, Rahul Bhanudas Mali, also delivered a speech and Hikavi H Kinimi, president of Sumi Youth Organisation, delivered a presidential address.
Sumi folk dance was performed by Usutomi village besides various cultural activities.
