Says controversy around polytechnic institute in Longleng is not political but of geography

Dimapur, June 24: Minister for Higher and Technical Education Temjen Imna Along has assured to give students the best polytechnic institute in the state.
The legislator addressed a thanksgiving ceremony organised by Eastern Nagaland Students' Union Dimapur (ENSUD) Education Initiative Programme 2014-batch on June 24 at the DBIDL Don Bosco campus in Dimapur.
“The influx of eastern Naga students in Kohima and Dimapur is humongous while the state still lacks behind in vocational studies (sic),” Along pointed out.
The government polytechnic institute in Longleng district is not an issue of politics but of location, he said and maintained that an institute has to be in an accessible location. "It was a wrong policy and similar case was with the Wokha Polytechnic Institute at Pangti village,” he added.
According to ENSUD, 150 students from the 2014-batch were left stranded in between their engineering course in Uttar Pradesh due to delay in releasing their scholarships by the state government. These students were later taken by Mewar University, at Chittorgarh in Rajasthan.
The minister assured that such incidents will not take place in the future and affirmed that scholarship for students will not be ‘stolen.’ Moreover, “side door” appointments will be curbed and reserved quota of respective tribes will not be diverted, he stated.
He requested the chairman of Mewar University, Dr. Ashok Kumar Gadiya to build a Mewar University in the state. He stressed on the need for good institutions and tapping the state’s resources as most of the students cannot afford to go outside Nagaland for education.
The chairman of Mewar University encouraged the students to find jobs in the state. He also emphasised that there are many jobs available outside Nagaland since state government jobs are limited. A state cannot provide job to every individual, therefore, the students should be prepared to get jobs applying their skills, he added.
