Adding a feather to his cap, acclaimed musician Alobo Naga has moved out from his comfort zone to venture into services–promote the music industry. One of Nagaland’s more renowned musician has opened Musik-A (‘Place of music’), also known as Alobo Naga School of Music, on Saturday June 18. Minister for Roads & Bridges Y Vikheho Swu and Parliamentary Secretary for Youth resources and Sports, Music Task Force Khriehu Liezietsu attended the event as special guests.
In his address, legislator Swu said that ‘we cannot afford to make mistakes when we identify youngsters growing in the area of their dream and passion and the whole idea of Musik-A is worth appreciating as we Naga lack in management and tend to be casual with our activities.’
‘We have exceptional talent but fail to capture the market and manage success ruining ourselves from the management we earn,’ the minister said.
Likewise, Khriehu Liezietsu said that music was a profession where there was ‘no retirement age.’ Ever since Nagaland’s ‘music potential was declared as an industry’, the government had been taking initiatives to promote musicians ‘despite limitations.’
‘Music,’ the legislator remarked, ‘is a beautiful gift and a great platform to propagate issues. Music-A is an endeavor where every one of us must be proud of and it has given us a good reason to celebrate through music.’ Endeavor should not be confined only to Nagaland but outside and beyond to attract music lovers, he said.
Alobo Naga said that Musik-A was a three-year old dream. Everyone is teaching and grooming on music but no one seriously promoting the art, he said. The musician highlighted that the school would focus on music education especially Indian classical music. According to Alobo, in India Bollywood music sells more than English albums and considering the market and promotion, his focus will be on Indian music to ‘reach larger audiences through Naga musicians.’
Speaking on the indigenous music in the state, Alobo lamented that the genre was dying in Nagaland. Musik-A will focus on imparting folk music, he said, besides contemporary and western music, and church music affiliated with the London School of Music.
The school will also be offering audio engineering, artist management and dance classes.
The day was a treat for those present for the opening. Local legend Methaneilie Jutakhrie took the stage and performed the ACAUT theme song to much cheer from the audience.
