The Nagaland Adolescent Girls Club (NAGC) was officially launched at Thinuovicha Memorial Higher Secondary School in Kohima on April 4 by the Chairperson Nagaland State Social Welfare Board, Bano Vinito Chishi.
Launching the club, Chishi called upon the students to study hard and to ‘trust in God so that they may achieve their goals in life.’ She also mentioned that the government of India was giving priority to the girl child, however to one must work hard to avail the opportunities. Stating that “hardly pass or just pass” is outdated she challenged the students to give their best and not waste their time unnecessarily. The secretary of the bloard, Daisy Mezhur spoke to the students about the activities of the Nagaland Adolescent Girls Club. She said that the membership in the club was for girls between the ages 10 and 19 years. The organization aims to instil a ‘sense of pride and self worth in adolescent girls, help them to respect themselves and others, help them to fight against abuse, violence and exploitation and also offer support and guidance,’ she said. She also spoke on the motto of the club, ‘Live the promise’.
Giving a brief account of the club, Ruovinuo Kiewhuo said that it was formed in May 2008 and has so far been introduced in 11 schools in the state of Nagaland.
