MOKOKCHUNG — In a significant initiative, the All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA) Mokokchung unit on Monday launched installation of 14 high-resolution CCTV cameras at seven strategic locations across Mokokchung town to bolster public safety and improve traffic management.
The cameras will be supervised and operated by Mokokchung Police (Traffic Division), with the aim of taking proactive steps to address the rising number of traffic violations and accidents in Mokokchung town.
Tongpang Pongen, president of ANTA Mokokchung unit, highlighted the challenges posed by increasing vehicular traffic, particularly reckless driving at night, which has led to accidents, hit-and-run incidents, and damage to public and private property.
“The lack of sufficient CCTV coverage in Mokokchung, with most existing cameras being privately owned, prompted ANTA to resolve at our general meeting to install these cameras for public safety,” Pongen stated.

The selected locations include IOC Junction (Mariani-Mokokchung Road), near The Restaurant II, opposite Eastern Hall, opposite Elite Hostel, near Main Police Point (below MTBA), opposite FAC Bus Stand, and below Baroda Bank.
The high-resolution CCTV cameras, capable of monitoring both day and night, are designed to deter reckless driving and assist police in curbing traffic violations.
Pongen said the ANTA Mokokchung unit has been proactive in pursuing public safety and welfare, in line with its motto 'Service to Public,' and will continue to prioritise public safety and welfare.
“As technology advances, we must adapt. CCTV has become the new normal for public safety and these cameras will act as a deterrent and aid law enforcement,” he said, appealing for public cooperation during the installation process to ensure its success.

Adangba, Officer-in-Charge (Traffic), Mokokchung, praised ANTA’s initiative, noting its significance in addressing challenges faced by police in resolving night-time accidents and crimes.
Adangba further acknowledged ANTA Mokokchung unit’s consistent contributions to citizen welfare, describing their initiatives as a vital support for law enforcement efforts and the public.
“Many night accident cases remain unresolved due to lack of footage. These CCTV cameras will be crucial not only for tracking accidents but also for enhancing overall public safety and assisting in crime prevention,” he said.
The CCTV installation commenced on Monday under the supervision of Mokokchung Traffic, marking a collaborative effort between ANTA and Mokokchung Police to create a more secure environment, reduce traffic violations, and supports the police in maintaining law and order.
