DIMAPUR, JUNE 19 (EMN — The All Nagaland College Students' Union (ANCSU), along with its affiliated college units across the state, on Friday observed a state-wide "Black Friday" protest as the first phase of its democratic agitation over the delayed construction of a 100-bedded girls' hostel at Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma.
In a press release, the ANCSU said the protest was launched after the expiry of the ultimatum it had served to the state government and the concerned authorities.
The union alleged that despite repeated representations, appeals and sufficient time given to the government, there had been no satisfactory response or visible progress on the long-pending hostel project.
Describing the government's continued inaction as "deeply disappointing and unacceptable," the union said the delay had adversely affected the welfare, safety and academic interests of hundreds of female students.
The union expressed appreciation to its affiliated and associate units for their participation in the state-wide protest, stating that the overwhelming response reflected the growing frustration among the student community over the government's failure to address the issue.
Reiterating that the immediate construction and completion of the 100-bedded girls' hostel is a non-negotiable demand, the union maintained that the project remains an urgent priority.
It warned that the responsibility for any escalation of the agitation would rest solely with the concerned authorities if the issue continued to remain unresolved.
The union also cautioned the state government and the concerned department to take immediate and concrete steps to address the matter without further delay.
It appealed to all affiliated units to remain prepared for the next phase of agitation, announcing that a massive state-wide protest rally would be launched in the coming days.
