Dimapur, Oct. 20 (EMN): Art and quiz, and tours and motivational programmes for youths, are some community initiatives that are now the social mainstay of the Assam Rifles. Various divisions of the security establishment offered updates on Saturday, informing community works that the security force has been undertaking in various districts of Nagaland.
In Tuensang district, the Shamator battalion of the Assam Rifles organised a painting competition at the government primary school of Saddle village, and at Straightway Mission School in Dan village, on October 19. “The aim of the competition was to encourage children to pursue extracurricular activities for overall development,” a note from the security force informed. 42 students participated, the updates informed.
In Phek district, the Chieswema battalion of the security force organised an inter-school quiz competition with the topical theme ‘know your army.’ A note from the Assam Rifles on Saturday informed that the event was conducted at Chizami govt. high school on October 20.
“The aim of the competition was to spread awareness about the security forces and inculcate a competitive spirit among the students. Six teams, comprising three boys and three girls’ team from govt. high school Chizami, Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School, and Eastern Mission High School participated in the competition,” the note stated. Topics on Indian history, science and current affairs were also included in the programme, it stated. The boys’ team from Chizami govt. high school was adjudged the winner of the competition.
Likewise, the Kohima Assam Rifles conducted an interactive session on the topic “today’s youth tomorrow’s future,” at Fernwood School, in Kohima on October 18.
“The lecture focused on imparting knowledge about the power of youth and their responsibility towards the society. During the lecture, aspects like skill development, initiative of govt. of India for empowerment of the youth were shared with the students,” the Assam Rifles stated. 67 students and seven teachers of Fernwood School attended the event, it added.
Another event that the security establishment organised for youths was a tour to Guwahati in Assam, and Shillong in Meghalaya. According to press release from the Assam Rifles on Saturday, the Tuensang battalion organized a ‘national integration tour’ from October 12 to the 20th for 15 students and two teachers from Tuensang.
‘The aim of the educational cum motivational tour was to providing exposure to the diverse cultures and development activities going on in other parts of the Northeast. Apart from the visiting various places of tourist, cultural and historical interest, the students had an audience with Shri Tathagata Roy, honourable governor of Meghalaya and senior officers of HQ DGAR,’ the press release from the Assam Rifles stated.
