All Commercial Vehicles’ Association during its 11th foundation day programme
in Wokha town on Saturday.
WOKHA — The All
Commercial Vehicles’ Association (ACVA) in Wokha has reaffirmed its stand on
‘One government, one tax,’ while it also resolved that any Wokha-bound
commercial vehicle owner or driver found paying taxes to Naga political groups
(NPG) would be held accountable.
The resolution to this effect was taken during its 11th
foundation day held at the conference hall of Lotha Hoho office on Saturday
with the Superintendent of Police, Wokha, M Rhovisie Nyuwi, as the special
guest and motor vehicle inspector, Asaibe Guing, as the special invitee.
Additionally, the association asserted that all taxation
matters must be directly reported to ACVA by the respective units. In an effort
to maintain discipline, ACVA announced that no bail would be granted for
drivers found intoxicated while on duty, emphasising that reckless driving
would be dealt with sternly.
Further, the tenure of office bearers was extended from
three years to five years.
Speaking at the event, Nyuwi lauded the association’s role
in maintaining law and order, noting the absence of major incidents during his
six-month tenure in the district. He urged commercial vehicle operators to
uphold traffic regulations and appreciated their service to society.
Nyuwi also addressed broader societal issues, highlighting
the growing dependency on government jobs and the necessity of embracing
sincerity and hard work in all professions.
Also speaking on the occasion, Guing elaborated on the legal
obligations of commercial vehicle operators, cautioning that driving without a
valid license could result in fines of up to INR 5,000 and three months
imprisonment. He also provided insights into license eligibility, international
driving permits and penalties for unregistered vehicles.
Additionally, Guing informed the attendees about the Good
Samaritan scheme, which offers financial rewards for aiding accident
victims.
ACVA president, Renbi Ngullie, has expressed gratitude to
the administration, police and transport department for their unwavering
support. He emphasised that ACVA is a non-profit organisation dedicated to
public service and reiterated the association’s stance against illegal
taxation.
He informed that ACVA members are not against any national
workers or NNPGs but expressed the burden of paying multiple taxation by the
members, which he reiterated on the appeal made by the Naga civil society on
'one government one tax, or one nation one tax.'
Y Bankathung Lotha, the first president of ACVA, reflected
on the association’s early challenges and encouraged members to uphold its
values.
The foundation day celebration featured the election of new
office bearers with Yanithung Lotha as president for the tenure 2025-2030.
Earlier, a car rally involving all registered commercial
vehicles under ACVA Wokha was held as part of the event. The rally traversed
major locations including Clock Tower, NST Junction, PWD Junction, Forest
Junction and NAYARA Fuel Station before concluding at its starting point.
Meanwhile, ACVA has appealed to the government to initiate
repairs on the collapsed culvert at Zuvodong Colony, citing its importance as a
vital link to District Hospital and educational institutions. The current road
condition has rendered the route impassable, creating difficulties for daily
commuters and emergency medical services.
