Dimapur, June 1 (EMN) : The Nagaland Health Project is the first state-level project funded by the World Bank. The project was launched on June 1 at a programme at the Capital Convention Centre in Kohima town by Minister Health and Family Welfare P Longon.
The project aims to improve health services and increase their utilization by communities in targeted locations in Nagaland. The Duration of the Project is 5-7 Years. The total financial outlay of the project is US$ 60 million (INR 390.5 crore) which includes external assistance: US$ 48 million (INR 312.5 crore) and share of the State Government: US$ 12 million (INR 78 crore).
The Project has two components:
Community Action for Health & Nutrition
The key objective is to empower communities to oversee, manage and improve Health & Nutrition Programs services and their utilization. It will be based on result based incentive strategy approach wherein the committee capacities will be built through intensive training to use the incentives for activities and investments that are important to them and which have potential impacts on health and nutrition. The funding will be provided to health committees on the basis of progress on defined indicators of improved health and nutrition-related services and practices
Health System Development
The key objective is to support improvements in the management and delivery of health services. It will be based on investments to improve service delivery conditions at targeted health facilities including water and sanitation and solar electricity
The Health System Development component will also include investments in strengthening health systems. They include supply chain management system, information and communications technology (ICT), health human resource strategy, other priority investment requirements that cannot be met from other sources, monitoring and evaluation and project management
The Nagaland Health Project intends to impact and improve percent of targeted health facilities that have not had a stock-out of any of five specified essential medicines in the previous six months and also percent of targeted health facilities with at least one hand-washing facility with running water that is functional and in use.
The project also Intends to impact on improving utilization of health services from percent of children aged under two years in targeted communities whose growth was recorded at least four times in the previous six months (total and female), percent of children aged 12-23 months in targeted communities who have received all recommended immunizations (total and female); and the annual outpatient consultations in targeted health facilities (per 100 population) (total and female).
