WOKHA — Aling Lotha of Naga People's Front (NPF) emerged victorious in the urban local body (ULB) by-election for Ward No. 8 (Tsumang B) under Wokha Town Council, defeating Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Mhomo Humtsoe by a margin of 37 votes.
The by-election, held on June 16, saw 565 of the 813 registered voters cast their ballots. Ten votes were declared invalid.
According to the official results, Lotha secured 296 votes, while Humtsoe polled 259 votes.
Polling day witnessed isolated incidents of violence, which were promptly brought under control by police personnel, ensuring the smooth conduct of the election process.

Following the declaration of results, Lotha expressed gratitude to the NPF leadership, party workers and supporters for their trust and unwavering commitment. He pledged to work for the welfare and development of Ward No. 8 and said he would strive to fulfil the aspirations of the people.
Highlighting his professional background as an architect, Lotha said that he would contribute his expertise towards scientific town planning and the overall development of Wokha town.
