The assembled band of Alempang ward comprising a five-member team was declared winner of the 1st Inter-Ward Beat Contest Mokokchung held at Town Hall Mokokchung on Saturday night with Retired Additional Dev Commissioner, Planning & Co-ordination, Dr Temsuwati as the chief guest.
Organised by Temulonger Telok on the theme ‘Music a soul, a thing for everything’, a total of nine bands representing nine wards of the town participated in the contest.
The nine bands belted out two rock songs of 80s in front a jam-packed audience flashing back the unforgettable era of the rustic charm of rock connecting the audiences to sing along with them.
At the end of the competition, ‘Alempang Ward’ was adjudged the best band and walked away with running trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 20,000 and certificates. They also won three individual titles.
The first runner-up position went to’ Sangtemla Ward and took away a cash prize of Rs 12,000 plus certificates.
In the individual category, the best vocal prize went to Taliyanger (Alempang Ward), Best guitarist – Pangjungsoba (Alempang Ward), Best bassist – Imnajungla (Alempang Ward) and best drummer – Imlitoshi (Salangtem Ward).
The melange of performances of the bands was judged by a panel of judges consisting of three veteran musicians namely, Lanuakum, Tangit Imsong and L Alemtemsu.
Earlier in the programme, the chief guest Dr Temsuwati appreciated the organisers – Temulonger Telok – for coming up with the idea to host the first Inter-Ward Beat Contest which will provide a platform to the young upcoming musicians in the society. He also pointed out that Mokokchung which is known as the land of pioneers should be promoted while challenging the audience to make Mokokchung a model district.
In this regard, he asserted that a model district would need model people and good leaders. He challenged the youths to become role models and responsible citizens for others to emulate and further urgws the people to be united and bring about positive changes in the society.
Besides, the competition, guest artist from ‘Four of Us’ band and also from Temulonger Telok entertained the audience with their performances . The evening of rock music ended with the champion-Alempang Ward singing the ‘winning song-I want to break free’, the eternal Queen hit number.
