- MOKOKCHUNG — The
Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has announced a temporary suspension of its
ongoing agitation over the shortage of doctors at Imkongliba Memorial District
Hospital (IMDH) in Mokokchung, following a response from the Health department.
- The decision comes after the department issued orders
detailing the transfer and posting of medical officers and directives to ensure
immediate healthcare staff availability at IMDH.
- The AKM, which had organised a public rally on March 15 and
threatened further protests starting today, described the suspension as a
gesture of good faith. “After careful consideration of the arrangements
undertaken by the department, we have decided to temporarily halt our agitation
with immediate effect,” the AKM stated in an official release.

- The organisation acknowledged the department’s efforts but
emphasised that the orders must be implemented fully. “We urge the department
to fulfil its commitments not just in letter but in action,” the statement
added.
- The AKM stated that it will continue to closely monitor the
implementation of the directives and agreed-upon measures to ensure AKM’s
concerns are fully addressed.
- In a broader appeal, the AKM called on the government of
Nagaland to expedite the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) examinations
to address the state-wide shortage of healthcare professionals. “We will
persistently pursue this issue until the NPSC examination is conducted. Failure
to act will prompt further necessary actions,” the AKM warned, signalling that
the suspension is conditional.
- Expressing optimism, the AKM urged the department to honour
its assurances to avoid renewed protests. “We look forward to constructive
dialogue and continued progress,” the statement read.
