MOKOKCHUNG— The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has cancelled its 64th Teachers’ Day programme, originally scheduled to honour the teaching community on September 5, citing unresolved issues over the state’s reservation policy.
The decision was made in solidarity with the 5-tribes committee, which has resolved to abstain from government functions until the matter is addressed.
The AKM expressed regret for any inconvenience caused but maintained that its stand aligns with the collective resolution of the 5 Tribes Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CoRRP).

The committee has decided to boycott state functions until Nagaland government settles the ongoing job reservation policy dispute that has triggered widespread debate.
While withdrawing the programme, AKM reaffirmed its deep respect for teachers, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to education and society. “Though we are unable to hold the formal event this year, our gratitude for teachers remains undiminished,” it stated.
The Teachers’ Day programme has been a longstanding AKM annual tradition, serving as a platform to celebrate and honour the educators’ dedication.
