MOKOKCHUNG — Akashvani Mokokchung, in collaboration with Queen Mary Higher Secondary School (QMHSS), Mokokchung, organised a marathon on the theme "Run for health, unity and discipline" on May 8.
The event, which is a part of the year-long celebration of Akashvani’s 90th anniversary, saw participation from 108 students, both boys and girls.
Winners in the respective categories were felicitated with cash prizes, certificates, and medals, while all participants received certificates of participation.
Rev. Sr. Flowerlit, Vice Principal of QMHSS, highlighting the event’s theme, stated that education extends far beyond the classroom and is equally shaped by discipline, physical fitness, unity, and determination.
"The marathon is a wonderful initiative that promotes healthy living and strengthens the spirit of togetherness," she said.

While paying tribute to Akashvani's legacy, Sr. Flowerlit acknowledged the broadcaster’s role in connecting people, raising awareness, and serving society through timely information and effective communication.
She encouraged the young runners, noting that their participation itself demonstrated courage, commitment, and true sportsmanship. "Taking part with sincerity and discipline is a victory in itself, irrespective of the final position," she added.
She expressed gratitude to the organisers, teachers, and support staff for their efforts and hoped the event would motivate everyone to embrace a healthier, more disciplined, and united lifestyle.
Habemo Ngullie, Head of Programme, Akashvani Mokokchung, also spoke at the event. Ngullie thanked the principal and commended the sports committee, organisers, volunteers, and teachers for their planning and coordination.
Congratulating all the participants, Ngullie said their energy, determination, and sportsmanship brought the marathon to life. He noted that the event carried deeper significance as it celebrated Akashvani’s nine decades of service.
"For ninety years, Akashvani has been a trusted voice, informing, educating, and inspiring generations across regions, languages, and cultures," he stated, adding that the marathon was also a platform to promote the values of health, unity, and discipline among the youth and the wider community.
