DIMAPUR — Akashvani Kohima, in collaboration with Department of Horticulture, on Tuesday organised a one-day workshop on fostering growth at Hortiscape, Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, on the theme “Empowering women in sustainability.”
Inher keynote address, the Akashvani Kohima assistant director of (P) HOP, Abino Lasuh, spoke on Broadcasting Infrastructure and Network Development (BIND) scheme under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, which aims to significantly upgrade the physical infrastructure of public broadcasters like Doordarshan and All India Radio, particularly in border, LWE-affected and strategic areas by allowing them to expand their reach and provide higher quality content to viewers with improved transmission facilities.
She further informed that the one-day workshop on fostering growth was a part of the BIND scheme.
The director of Horticulture, Meyasashi, thanked Akashvani Kohima for organising the workshop and stated that the participants would learn and benefit a lot from the workshop. He also delved into the importance of sustainability in the food production and farming sector and said that food as a basic right should be accessible and affordable for all.
He also emphasised on the importance of eco-friendly farming practices which has little or no impact on the environment and discouraged the use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides that harm and negatively impact the eco system. In conclusion, he stated that the topics of the workshop were apt in regard to the modern context of sustainable farming and expressed confidence that the participants would get new insights and bring changes to the farming process in the State.
The resource persons of the workshop were director of Konger AGRITECH Pvt. Ltd, Dimapur, Dr. Sosang Longkumer, and Thunglamo Humtsoe from Urban Grower, Wokha.
The resource persons spoke on “Mushroom cultivation as a sustainable livelihood for women in Nagaland” and “Soilless solution, endless growth, experience the future of farming with hydroponic” respectively.
