Dimapur, Dec. 9 (EMN): Air Officer Commanding in Chief, Air Marshal R Nambiar, who is also Bar of Eastern Command Shillong having jurisdiction over 11 states in the eastern region, along with spouse Mrs Luxmi Nambiar visited Kohima to grace the Hornbill Festival on December 6.
The Air Marshal was accompanied by the Project Director (IAF) Nagaland Wing Commander, SA Jakhalu.
The Air Marshal had interaction with the state governor, PB Acharya, on December 6 morning and also with the state chief minister, Neiphiu Rio in the evening.
A defence release stated that the chief minister had thanked him and Eastern Air Command for being part of the 55th statehood day celebrations by putting up spectacular air display, first of its kind over the Kohima skies.
The Air Marshal apprised them of the pro active involvement of Eastern Air Command to improve and carry out infrastructure development in the eastern region, which would not only enhance its capabilities but also help the local population.
Air Marshal said that all support would be provided to state government administration in all possible ways, especially humanitarian assistance during disaster relief operations which is also a peace time role of the IAF. It mentioned that this year, when the state was badly affected with landslides, the IAF and its brave Air warriors had carried out relief operations with its helicopters in aid of civil administration by supplying life saving essential commodities and carrying out casualty evacuation, risking their lives in bad weather, remote and difficult mountainous terrain, in support of the effected Naga public.
To honour the state guest, a dinner was organised which was attended by John Longkhomer, DGP Nagaland, and other senior government officials.
On December 7, the Air Marshal interacted with the Mizoram governor, Kummanam Rajasekharan and later with the state additional chief secretary, Temjen Toy, before departure to Shillong.
