The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has rejected the response of the eight Congress legislators of Nagaland to a show cause notice served by the party in connection with the decision of the MLAs to go rogue and join the ruling dispensation in Nagaland.
A press release from the AICC in-charge of Northeast states, V Narayanasamy stated that the eight legislators were still liable to disciplinary proceedings. The suspension order will continue to stand during which they are prohibited from all party functioning,” he informed.
Narayanasamy said that the joint reply from the eight suspended legislators was found to be hollow. “There is no word that is consistent with AICC directives which is their final authority and original political party.”
He stated that former NPCC chief, SI Jamir and former CLP leader, Tokheho had misinterpreted the directive of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and misled “the party ranks and files.” According to Narayanasamy, after the BJP legislators were inducted into the Nagaland government on April 27 last, he had called Jamir to convey the message that Sonia Gandhi had “specifically directed” the Congress MLAs not to join the government.
The AICC had also directed the new NPCC chief, K Therie to announce the party’s stand to the people and to restrain the Congress legislators from joining a government which had BJP as an ally, he stated. Despite all those clear instructions, the eight legislators decided to “willfully” violate party directives and go rouge by joining the NPF-BJP alliance, he said. “By their conduct, sufficient evidences have been displayed that they have voluntarily given up their party allegiance and membership,” he concluded.
