AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge to address rally in Kohima on October 7, highlighting democracy, secularism, and governance.

KOHIMA — The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Monday announced that All India Congress Committee (AICC) president and Member of Parliament Mallikarjun Kharge will visit Kohima on October 7 to address a public rally and hold meetings with party functionaries.
The announcement was made during a press conference at Congress Bhavan, Kohima, by NPCC president and Lok Sabha MP S Supongmeren Jamir, along with Akuonuo Miachieo, co-convenor of the organising committee and NPCC general secretary, and other party leaders.
Miachieo informed that the rally will be held at the Naga Solidarity Park in Kohima, where Kharge will be joined by AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal and AICC in-charge of Nagaland, Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka.

Jamir said that the AICC president will also meet with the Political Affairs Committee and District Congress Committee during his visit. The rally, scheduled to begin at 11 am, will focus on “save democracy, save secularism, and save Nagaland.”
Issues such as youth employment, entrepreneurship, governance, road connectivity and secularism in the Northeast are expected to be highlighted.
Appealing to citizens and minority communities in Nagaland to attend, Jamir said that the rally would serve as a platform to share concerns so that the party leadership could raise them at the national level. Around 10,000 people are expected to attend, he said.
Jamir maintained that the Congress is taking the present situation seriously, citing the Manipur crisis and the re-imposition of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in the state. He said that the Congress high command is committed to good governance and safeguarding the aspirations of the people.
He also underlined the need to prioritise secularism and ensure the safety of all communities, including minorities, under constitutional guarantees. “By saving Nagaland, it is related to living standards, culture, traditions and especially employment for youth empowerment,” he said.
Jamir also expressed hope that other political parties would come forward, as the rally would be a common platform.
On the reported move for a merger between the NDPP and NPF, Jamir remarked that both are regional parties and regionalism is “holding on to one basket only,” adding that it would not have any further impact.
