New Delhi, Feb. 23 (PTI): All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader and Member of Parliament S Rajendran, 62, died in a car accident on Saturday morning. Rajendran was elected from Villupuram in Tamil Nadu to the Lok Sabha in 2014.
The accident took place at around 5 am Saturday morning in Villupuram district’s Tindivanam after the driver lost control of the vehicle.
“Two others who were with the MP, his driver and a relative who assisted him in his work, were taken to a local hospital and then shifted to Government Medical College Hospital at Mundiyampakkam (Villupuram district),” a police official told PTI.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edapaddi K Palaniswami, meanwhile, offered condolences and remembered Rajendran for his efficient work as an MP, service to the people and commitment to the party. “Rajendran has been in public life for a long time and worked for the people’s welfare. He was affable and held many responsibilities in the party. His death is a huge loss for the AIADMK and the people,” the police said.
Rajendran was a graduate from the University of Madras with a Bachelors degree in Tamil Literature. After being elected into the House, he served as a member of the Standing Committee on Chemicals and Fertilizers and the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
