DIMAPUR — Amid tense situation in Nagaland-Assam border area after two persons from Sonari in Charaideo were found dead in Mon district earlier this week, which the police said was a case of road accident, representatives of civil society organisations (CSOs) from Mon and Charaideo districts convened a meeting at the Konyak Union (KU) Office, Tizit Unit, on Friday.
An update from the CSOs informed that the house passed a five-point resolution, ‘signifying the dedication to fostering a peaceful and cooperative relationship between the Ahom and Konyak communities, transcending borders and differences for the greater good’.
“All matters or incidents that may occur on either side, shall be first communicated to the counterpart Civil Society Organization before executing any actions independently. This open and transparent communication will enable both sides to address issues promptly and amicably,” read the resolution.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]The house resolved not to take any incident or crime that may arise on either side as a communal issue but work together to resolve conflicts in an unbiased manner through legal route by adhering to the provisions of the law.
Recognising the importance of maintaining regular communication and coordination between CSOs from the two communities, they decided to hold co-ordination meetings from time-to-time to discuss emerging issues, share information and strengthen their relationship.
“In regard to the unfortunate incident/accident at Angjangyang, Mon district on 23rd September 2023 where one driver and handyman from Charaideo, Assam loss their lives; and in the event of awaited forensic report found it as a murdered, both the CSOs shall pressurize the district administration and Police for a prompt investigation to apprehend the culprit at the earliest (sic),” it stated.
“Further resolutions and action points shall be discussed and mutually agreed upon in subsequent meeting where JOINT ACTION COMMITTEE shall be formed to ensure the continued progress of our collaborative efforts in promoting peace, unity, and harmonious relations between our communities,” it said, adding that the next meeting will be held on October 10.
It may be mentioned that the Mon police retrieved the bodies of two persons from Sonari, along with the pick-up truck they were travelling in, about 200 feet below the road in Mon district during a search operation after receiving a missing complaint.
Nagaland DGP Rupin Sharma as well as Mon Deputy Commissioner have said that it was a case of road accident and no foul play linked to it.
