Dimapur, November 15: Sumi tribe celebrated Ahuna at Aghunato town on November 14 with the Parliamentary Secretary of Soil and Water Conservation, Pukhayi Assumi, as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest reminded the gathering of the discipline and loyalty of their forefathers and urged them to nurture those values. Emphasising on the significance of preserving the culture, he said “If we lose our culture, we lose our identity and our society would be lost.”
He also mentioned about the various developmental projects including the retrieving of the SBI and up-gradation of the Aghunato Town Committee, which he said, would be materialised soon.
President of Aghunato Area GBs’ Association, Kuhoje Achumi delivered the welcome note, while Nitovi Assumi shared on the significance of Ahuna. Pastor of ATBC said the invocation prayer, while Khehoi pronounced the benediction.
In the cultural session, Lukikhe/Shevishe village presented folk dance. The following villages namely Thokihimi, Lizutomi, Hoshepu, Khumishi presented cultural items. Yimchunger cultural group also performed a folk dance.
