Mokokchung, October 13 : After taking due action against Ongpangkong Petrol Pump Cooperative Society, a fuel station charged with alleged tampering of fuel machines, the depot was opened on Thursday by the local administration.
Members of a students’ organization, the Ongpangkong Kaketshir Mungdang (OKM), were also on sight during the opening of the depot. The station was recently in the news for allegedly tampering fuel dispensers.
The filing station was sealed by the district administration and the Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection department on October 6 following complaints from the OKM that the fuel dispensers at the station had been tampered.
A press statement from the organization, appended the group’s President R Sunep Pongen and General Secretary Lendilong, stated that said firm was found to have violated a rule in the Legal Metrology Act of 2009. The station was penalized by the district administration and the district magistrate, the statement stated.
The deputy commissioner of Mokokchung stated in an order this week: “As per the Magisterial report...dated 7th October 2016 and office of the Assistant Controller Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection... dated 7th October 2016 with regard to the Ongpangkong Petrol Pump Cooperative Society, Sugkomen ward, the fuel dispensers pump...showed fluctuations in the meter rating, and therefore these two fuels dispensers are to be removed from the present location with immediate effect and shall be replaced with new fuel dispensers at the earliest.”
‘The fuel dispensers...was found in use without informing the inspector (of) Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection department for re-verification after the alleged repair on 4th October 2016. This is a violation of section 33 of the Legal Metrology Act 2009. For which, a penalty is hereby imposed,’ the order read.
Leaders of the OKM have stated that as two defective fuel dispensers at the station had been removed as demanded, the petrol pump had commenced business from October 13.
The organization has assured to keep vigil.
