Dimapur, November 11: Amur Falcon Roosting Area Union (AFRAU) of Pangti village in Wokha district has sought cooperation from all agencies/ tourists to enable them have quality view of the birds during their visit to the site.
AFRAU president Zanthungo Shitiri said the responsibility of protecting Amur Falcons in Pangti village has been solely taken by the union with some incentives/ help from the Forest department.
As per record till November 10, a total of 405 distinguished visitors including domestic/foreign tourists have visited the roosting area. The first VIP visitor was Apok Pongener, working president NPF central and political advisor to the chief minister, with his team on October 23, followed by other high ranking officers including the satellite tagging team led by Dr. Suresh Kumar from Wildlife Institute of India along with the DFO Wokha, Zuthunglo Patton, and DFO Doyang, Lhingoikim Touthang, and NGOs team headed by Bano Haralu, Director NWBCT.
The Union also took pride in welcoming the State Governor, PB Acharya, for visiting the roosting place inspite of the pathetic road and weather conditions on November 7 and 8 to witness millions of birds roosting at one go.
Meanwhile, the union acknowledged all the high profile visitors for bearing the inconveniences during their visit.
The union, meanwhile, said that it will be highly indebted if the said guidelines be put to work for the conservation and preservation of the species, which happened to be called ‘The Pride of Nagaland’ and Pangti as ‘Capital of Amur Falcon in the World.’ It further requested all tourist to fallows the do’s and don’ts restricted by the union.
