KOHIMA — As part of the Mission Organic Value
Chain Development for the North-East Region (MOVCDNER) Phase IV, 16
transportation vehicles were distributed to Farmer Producer Companies (FPC) by
the advisor of Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan, during a programme held at the
Directorate of Agriculture in Kohima on Tuesday.
Speaking at the event, Yanthan stated that the distribution
of transport vehicles aims to enhance connectivity and ensure that farm produce
reaches the nearest market efficiently. He highlighted that under MOVCDNER
alone, the department has distributed around 50 transport vehicles to
facilitate the movement of agricultural produce from farmers.
Additionally, he mentioned that the department is exploring
opportunities under IDAN to provide subsidies through bank financing for
interested and enterprising farmers to acquire transportation vehicles,
ensuring that all farm produce finds a market.
Yanthan emphasised that the objective was to ensure that no
farmer faces difficulties due to a lack of transportation. He urged farmers to
take responsibility for increasing agricultural production and to use the
vehicles efficiently to boost economic activity in the state.
He further encouraged farmers to recognise the vast business
potential in Nagaland and to take advantage of training initiatives to better
understand the dynamics of running FPCs.
The director of Agriculture, S Yongchang Phom, reminded the
beneficiaries to utilise the vehicles effectively for market linkage. He
described MOVCDNER as a significant scheme that provides extensive
opportunities for farmers from production to marketing.
He also encouraged CEO and board of directors (BOD) of FPCs
to participate in the ongoing training at the Directorate of Agriculture to
gain insights into market linkage, financial record-keeping and business
operations.
Phom also stressed the importance of organising and
mobilising FPC members to avail themselves of the facilities offered under
MOVCDNER by the Ministry.
The Agriculture Production Commissioner and Mission Director
of FOCUS-Nagaland, Wezope Kenye, also delivered a short speech during the
event.
The programme was chaired by Burwati Longkumer, joint
director of Agriculture.
Following the distribution ceremony, a two-day training
session for CEOs and BODs of FPCs under MOVCDNER was conducted. The training
focused on business planning, accounting and bookkeeping, marketing strategies
and packaging and labeling.
Dutta, CEO of NEON, presented a briefing on the training
programme.
