PHEK — Nagaland Advisor for CAWD and Taxes, Kudecho Khamo on Saturday urged the Chakhesang community to uphold integrity, unity and traditional values.
He was addressing the 44th general session of the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) at Town Hall, Phek.
Khamo appreciated the pioneers and leaders of the Chakhesang tribe who have trailblazed and led the community thus far.
Emphasising the importance of culture, identity and tradition, he asserted the need to uphold the values resolved by the CPO in the larger interest of the community, including the prohibition on the import of pigs and pork, and the preservation of flora and fauna.
He stressed the importance of truthfulness and integrity in society and the church, adding that there is a vital need for retrospection and introspection in order to coexist as an upright community.

Chakhesang as a people, he said, should have their foundation on God, followed by honesty and integrity — priceless ethos that must be reflected in both professional and personal life as a distinguishing standard.
Highlighting the role of honesty in leadership, friendship and cooperation, he called upon the people to collectively fight against social evils by restoring cultural values and traditions.
Expressing concern over substance abuse and other social issues, he urged the community to combat such menaces collectively.
Khamo underlined that unity is the strength of the people, fostering peace, justice and oneness to realise the full potential of the community.
He reminded the gathering to cherish the spirit of “One people, one community, one faith, one hope and salvation” for collective progress.
Describing hard work as a hallmark of the community, he encouraged people to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving world.
He also stressed the need to explore the farming sector by utilising the fertile land gifted by God, while preserving community forests and promoting organic and naturally grown resources that are less labour-intensive.
Khamo said village leadership must go beyond holding office and guide people towards economically viable and sustainable pursuits. He called for effective utilisation of government-aided funds to support farmers and families, and advocated a mass movement centred on “One Family, One Project”, “One Family, One Entrepreneur” and “One Family, One Prayer Time”.
CPO president Vezuhu Keyho, in his presidential address, reiterated the organisation’s stand on the Naga political issue, affirming its position in support of the Naga National Council (NNC) and the Naga Plebiscite.
A speech was delivered by K Puro, convenor of the CPO Constitution Amendment Committee, who led the house in adopting the amended constitution. Dr. Zavei Hiese, convenor of the Chakhesang Attire Regulatory Board, emphasised the duty of every community member to uphold, protect and safeguard traditional attires.
Earlier, welcome address was delivered by Shevohu Nienu, chairperson of Phek Town Council. The general secretary’s report was presented by Chepetso Koza, general secretary, CPO. Folk and special songs were presented by Porba Youth Organisation and Nurile Chizo, respectively.
On the occasion, Khamo also released a book titled “Regulations on the usage of Chakhesang attires and ornaments Part-1.”
CPO resolutions
Meanwhile the CPO declared 2026 as the “Year of unity and relationship building among the Chakhesang community” and adopted several resolutions.
It resolved to strengthen the Chakhesang as a unified and reliable tribe within the Naga family and urged all citizens to uphold decisions of the CPO executive council, warning that failure to comply may invite action as per Chakhesang customary practices.
On the Naga political issue, the CPO urged Naga political groups to refrain from creating further splinter groups and appealed for reconciliation in the spirit of forgiveness to restore unity in the Naga movement.
Regarding quality education, the CPO resolved to prioritise primary and quality education to combat social disparity and foster holistic human resource development. It further resolved to eliminate the practice of proxy teaching in Chakhesang towns and villages, entrusting the Chakhesang Students’ Union to ensure strict implementation.
On economic development, the CPO urged the community not to allow benami businesses in towns and villages and encouraged endorsement of village and town councils for proper implementation. It also resolved to promote a “One Family–One Project” initiative in agriculture and allied sectors and to constitute an expert committee to prepare a 30-year master plan towards economic independence.
Reaffirming its commitment to the existing ban on the import of pigs into Phek district, the CPO stated that pigs may be imported exclusively from Chakhesang-owned farms outside the district, subject to a valid veterinary health certificate. All such farms must register with the CPO, and implementation will be monitored by the Chakhesang Youth Front.
The 44th general session also reaffirmed the resolutions adopted during the 43rd general session held at Phek Town on January 10, 2025.
