YORUBA — Advisor for CAWD and Taxes, Kudecho Khamo, on Friday stressed that the diminishing of culture and tradition, coupled with greed and self-interest, has led to a lack of unity in society.
The advisor called for the revival of cultural values to enable society to live harmoniously in unity.
Khamo was addressing the 50th anniversary celebration of the Yorubami Youth Association (YYA) held at local ground, Yoruba village in Phek district.
Paying tribute to the pioneers of YYA, Khamo said the village has produced top leaders in state politics, notably the late Vamuzo, former Chief Minister of Nagaland, under whose leadership the Village Development Board (VDB) system was introduced. The model has since spread to other parts of the state and the nation

In this regard, he urged the elders to pass on the baton of rich legacy and empower the younger generation.
He asserted the need to uphold honest values, stating that without honesty, families, society and villages would face turmoil. He called for sincerity, hard work and honesty at all levels.
Highlighting the fast-paced competitive world driven by technology, materialism and economic power, Khamo pointed out the paradigm shift in various fields including sports, employment, entrepreneurship and even theological studies.
He exhorted the youth not to be disheartened by tough competition but to realise their potential with commitment and determination, adding that no force can stand against a person who has God on their side.
He further said that different talents—be it sports, music, agriculture and other fields—offer opportunities to earn a livelihood.
Emphasising the importance of preserving cultural identity and faith, he cautioned that modernisation and globalisation pose risk of losing one’s language, culture and identity.
He urged the youth to stand firm in faith to avoid confusion in the evolving world.
Khamo also called upon the youth to contribute to village and society by giving back through good deeds and stressed the need for concerted efforts to build a model village and society that would bring change and transformation.
Guest of honour and former president of the Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF), Lhuvesayi Lohe also paid tribute to the pioneers and emphasised the need to deepen faith and fear God.
He highlighted the need for livelihood generation, stating that government jobs are saturated and that opportunities are no longer determined by qualifications alone but by skills. He stressed consistency in work and encouraged small start-ups.
Sano Vamuzo, Padma Shri Awardee and Baptist World Congress Quinquennial Human Rights Awardee, released the jubilee souvenir.
In her address, she spoke on the unique creation of God and called for unity and oneness of the village to strengthen Naga society.
Greetings were delivered by Vethisa Lohe, chairman of Village Council Yoruba, and Zashevezo Rhakho, GB and ex-VCC Kutsapo.
Earlier, welcome address was delivered by Mudihi Lohe, Head GB, while the presidential address was delivered by Rukuvezo Veswuh, president of YYA.
The Yorubami Women Welfare Society presented a folk song, and a special appearance was made by Phuhgumi Youth Welfare Union.
Earlier, the golden jubilee monolith was unveiled by Advisor Khamo, and a dedicatory prayer was offered by Rev. Pukrolhou Lohe, pastor of Yoruba Baptist Church.
