WOKHA — Advisor for School Education and State
Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT), Dr. Kekhrielhoulie
Yhome, on Monday visited Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Wokha, to
inspect the ongoing infrastructure development.
Before the site visit, a meeting was held at the deputy
commissioner's office, chaired by DC Vineet Kumar. The meeting discussed key
aspects of government school infrastructure and the Lighthouse School Complex
construction under the NECTAR project.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Yhome emphasised the
significance of the project and urged stakeholders to actively participate in
transforming government schools, especially GHSS Wokha, which is undergoing
major infrastructure upgrades.
He expressed concern over the declining status of government
schools due to lack of community commitment, while reminding that these
institutions a rich history of producing successful bureaucrats and notable
figures.
During the meeting, the issue of land encroachment at GHSS
Wokha was also discussed. Originally, landowners had donated 11.85 acres for
the school, but recent reports presented by the department indicate a
significant reduction, with only 4.15 acres remaining.
During his inspection of the NEP Lighthouse School Complex
project, he observed that the hostel foundation was laid within the school
playground, expressing concern that losing the playground would deprive
students of a vital aspect of school life.
Following an on-the-spot verification, he directed
authorities to relocate the construction site by demolishing unused structures,
and provide separate facilities for boys and girls.
The advisor further called on stakeholders to protect the
school's land and assured them of assistance with legal proceedings if
required.
Highlighting Wokha’s central location and historical
significance, he underscored the district’s potential for hosting major
educational activities, and emphasised that transforming school infrastructure
today would be an investment in the future.
Yhome was accompanied by Dr. Chumben Murry, Advisor to the
Chief Minister; Commissioner & Secretary for Education and SCERT; State
Mission Director for Samagra, and Principal Director of School Education.
The meeting was attended by members of the District
Committee for Lighthouse School Complex (DCLSC), Lotha Hoho, Lotha Eloe Hoho,
Lotha Students’ Union, town councillors, GHSS Wokha Principal, Wokha Village
Council chairman, and land donors.
Earlier in the meeting, Yhome reiterated his commitment to
revamping government schools and encouraged community involvement, saying it
would help mitigate the increasing cost of education.
Dr. Murry lauded Yhome’s proactive efforts to improving
school education and endorsed his vision for strengthening government schools.
Representatives from Lotha Hoho, Lotha Students’ Union, and
land donors also expressed appreciation to the advisor for his visit and
commitment to addressing concerns affecting the district’s education sector.
