Advisor Dr. Yhome reviews Dumpsite Remediation Acceleration Programme works at Kohima dumpsite.

DIMAPUR — Advisor of School Education and the State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT), Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, on February 3 visited the KMC dumping site at Dzürüzou in Meriema to review the ongoing Dumpsite Remediation Acceleration Programme (DRAP) for legacy waste remediation.
A DIPR report stated that Dr. Yhome had earlier assumed responsibility for overseeing the ongoing Dumpsite Remediation Acceleration Programme (DRAP) for legacy waste remediation at the KMC dumping site at Dzürüzou in Meriema under SBM (U)-2.0.

The SBM (Urban) mission director, Kezhochole Rhetso, and officials of the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), who accompanied the advisor, have highlighted the works initiated under the programme to make Kohima a dumpsite-free city. They informed the work would be completed within the timeline set by the ministry.
It stated that Dr. Yhome has urged the concerned officials to expedite the ongoing works and ensure that the remediation process is completed within the stipulated timeline. He appealed to the public to actively cooperate by adopting proper waste management practices, particularly by practicing waste segregation at the household level.
He further emphasised that segregation of waste into biodegradable, non-biodegradable and hazardous categories is essential for effective waste collection and scientific disposal, adding that public participation and responsible disposal habits are key to maintaining cleanliness and improving overall environmental sustainability.
