- KOHIMA — The
Alternative English 1 and 2 book for BA second and fourth semester of Nagaland
University, written by Rukulu Kezo, Tatongkala Lemtur and Opangmenla Jamir, was
officially launched by Kekhrie Yhome, advisor of School Education and SCERT, on
Saturday at Highland Institute in Kohima.
- While congratulating the authors, Dr. Yhome shared that the
under the NEP, there was a need to introduce elements of mother tongue even in
the state. He, however, lamented that students do not have the luxury of
learning their own language because there are no books which are published in
their own language.
- He further stated that the government has started working on
textbook in other languages.
- Introducing the authors, Chubarenla Longkumer, head of Political
Science department at Capital College of Higher Education, stated that Rukulu
Kezo did her Masters in English literature from Nagaland University, M.Phil and
PhD in English language education from English and Foreign Languages
University, Hyderabad. He is also the founder and chief instructor of CUE
Academy and assistant professor at Capital College of Higher Education.
- Tatongkala Lemtur also holds a Masters degree in English and
also M.Phil in English Literature. She has been an educator for over a decade,
while Opangmenla Jamir holds a Master’s degree in English Literature and a B.Ed
degree and has over ten years of experience in teaching.
- Rukulu Kezo, in her short address, said that the book was
part of an initiative of the CUE academy. As many students graduate but without
any skills and cannot manage without notes from the teachers, she wanted to
change the education scenario.
- To the teachers, she suggested that they need to take a step
back and stop teaching but start facilitating. To the students, she advised
that the purpose of education is much broader and it is time to use their mind.
