MOKOKCHUNG, FEBRUARY 18
A seven-day Adventure Camp organized by the Nagaland Association for Adventure Mountaineering & Education (NAAME) is currently underway at Mokokchung where twenty-five members are taking part.
Five participants each from Tuensang, Mokokchung, Longleng, Zunheboto and Kohima are undergoing training and practice in Adventure Camp 201, sponsored by Nehru Yuvak Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) Nagaland Zone, at Ungma village.
The campers are taught zip-lining, trekking, rappelling, night safari, rope knot, nature study, obstacles, cleanliness drive (under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan), river rafting (at Dikhu river), river crossing, yoga etc. The activities are being under taken under the watchful eye of trained professional under Chief Instructor, Khrieketoulie Kintso and co- Chief Instructor Tako, besides six instructors.Nagaland Association for Adventure, Mountaineering & Education (NAAME) was formed in 2006 to promote adventure sports in the state with suitable topography for adventure sports and mountaineering, said Camp director, Kelhouzasie Lawrence.
Lawrence also highlighted achievements of NAAME which include activities in Hornbill Festival, Green Park Dimapur, annual competition to climb Mt Japfu and forest fire awareness campaign at different villages.
The Association has won medals at the North East Zone Sports Climbing Meet and facilitates interested adventurous youths to go for training in Darjeeling, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh and Manipur.
Meanwhile, the NAAME officials acknowledged the NYKS, Nagaland Zone for sponsoring the Adventure Camp 2016, expressed gratitude to Ungma village for hospitality logistical support and to the Assam Rifles for allowing them to use the AR Ground in Mokokchung. The Adventure Camp will culminate on Feb 21.
