Dimapur, Jan. 28 (EMN): The 9th National Voters Day was observed on January 25 in Kiphire and Longleng districts, and in the administrative division of Pughoboto, with the theme “No vote to be left behind.” Government establishments in the administrative areas observed the event with various programmes, updates on Monday from the DIPR stated.
In Kiphire, a programme commemorating National Voters Day was conducted during which additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Reny Wilfred told the gathering that every individual has the right to cast their vote if they have attained the age of 18 years. He said that the main aim of observing the event was to increase citizens’ participation in elections.
In Longleng, the National Voters’ Day was observed with deputy commissioner of the district, John Tsulise Sangtam as its special guest. Sangtam appealed to the gathering telling them that the day was observed to reaffirm their responsibility as good citizens of a democratic country and to realize the importance of the Right to Vote for effective democratic system of the nation.
Likewise, in Pughoboto, a National Voters Day programme was conducted during which the ADC of the administrative division, Phuleshe K Yepthomi, was the main speaker. He challenged the people to be assertive in exercising their right to vote and ‘not be influenced by selfish interests.’ In a democracy, he said, the voice of the people is supreme and this voice is translated into the democratic system through the Right to Vote.
