Manipur BJP president Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi took oath as a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament after being elected unopposed.

IMPHAL — Manipur BJP president Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi was sworn in as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha on Monday after being elected unopposed to the lone Rajya Sabha seat from the state.
Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan administered the oath to Sharda Devi and six other newly elected and re-elected members in the Upper House chamber.
Sharda Devi took the oath in Manipuri and was the only representative from Manipur among the seven members sworn in.
The other members hailed from Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
Sharing videos and photographs of the swearing-in ceremony on X, Sharda Devi described the occasion as one of the most significant milestones of her life.
"Today marks one of the most significant milestones of my life as I had the honour of taking the oath as a Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, alongside six esteemed colleagues from different states of our great nation," she wrote.
"I accept this solemn responsibility with humility, gratitude, and a deep sense of commitment to serve the people of Manipur and contribute to the progress and development of our nation," she added.
Sharda Devi also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president Nitin Nabi, Manipur chief minister, party leaders, mentors, colleagues, well-wishers and the people of Manipur for their support, guidance and blessings.
The BJP had announced Sharda Devi as its candidate for the 2026 Rajya Sabha biennial elections on June 4. She was elected unopposed after the term of Manipur's lone Rajya Sabha member, Leishemba Sanajaoba, ended on June 21.
