An addiction awareness programme under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan was conducted in Kiphire with the 30 Assam Rifles.
DIMAPUR — Akehda Amulung Kiphire, the Implementing Support Agency (ISA) for the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA), in collaboration with the Kiphire district administration, organised an addiction awareness programme at the ZPC auditorium in Kiphire on Thursday.
The main awareness session, on the theme "Say no to drugs – yes to life", was delivered by Colonel Rajiv Sharma, Commandant of the 30 Assam Rifles, stated an update.
During his address, Colonel Sharma explained that addiction is not only related to drugs but can also include unhealthy habits and behaviours. He noted that many people do not chase drugs but instead seek relief from stress, loneliness, frustration, and emotional pain. He encouraged participants to care for their mental health, build strong family relationships, and maintain positive friendships to prevent addiction.
The speaker outlined the six stages of recovery: denial, awareness, planning, action, relapse, and freedom, stating that recovery is a gradual journey requiring positive decisions every day. He reminded participants that a relapse is not the end of the journey but an opportunity to begin again with determination.

Colonel Sharma said that discipline can replace dependence, confidence can replace guilt, and true victory comes from mastering oneself. He also advised participants to use technology wisely and not allow it to control their lives.
He added that every person has the ability to change, and with strong family support, healthy friendships, self-discipline, and meaningful human connections, individuals can overcome addiction.
The welcome address was delivered by Longtili C Sangtam, founder of Akehda Amulung, and an anti-drug pledge was administered by Irothe T Sangtam, CEO of Akehda Amulung.
