Dimapur, August 8 (EMN): Considering plight of the public following occurrences of landslides in the sub-division due to heavy rain in the recent past, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Bhandari, T Nchumbemo Odyuo has urged the department concerned to remain alert and active in order to provide succour to the commuters.
Addressing the coordination meeting with all the government departments, civil society leaders and the Goan Buras in his official residence on August 7, the ADC urged all concerned to remain alert as the problems could persist in the sub-division. He expressed concern that unprecedented heavy monsoon had caused both minor and major landslides particularly between Merapani and Wokha road which is considered as a major economy road.
On destruction to electric poles due to rain and landslide, the ADC stated that some will be either bypassed or relocated to a better area including the 33KV line within a short time possible.
On damage to water pipelines and interruption of water supply, the concerned department was asked to look into the matter and resume the repairing works without delay.
Civil society leaders and elders, who also spoke during the meeting, appealed to the departmental officers to stay in their respective work stations in order to function and carry out their assigned responsibilities for the welfare of the public.
The ADC notified that a compulsory social work will be conducted in all the government offices on August 12 as part of preparation for the forthcoming Independence Day. He has directed all the officers to supervise their respective departments by observing strict attendance of their staff. Work distribution for the Independence Day celebration was also allocated to all the departments.
