Dimapur, Dec. 19: The Naga Hoho said it is totally dismayed by the actions and activities against the Nagas living in Manipur by the Meiteis.
Stating that it has been closely observing the developments taking place in Manipur against the Nagas, the Naga Hoho, in a release issued by its assembly secretary K Elu Ndang, on Monday said the actions of the Meiteis have gone beyond tolerance. It said the attack on the Christian institutions and innocent passengers and burning down of vehicles by “state-sponsored criminals” cannot be tolerated by the Nagas at any cost.
“We have been living together as good neighbour in the past and we wish to do so in the days to come. However, it has proved beyond doubt that Nagas and Meiteis to live separately is becoming inevitable as the actions and attitude of Meiteis towards Nagas speak volumes of hatred. The war like situation created by the people of Manipur is beyond imagination,” the Naga Hoho stated.
The Naga Hoho further appealed to the Meitei community living in Naga areas to tell their people living in Manipur not to wage war against Nagas on communal lines or else it will have adverse repercussions in the Naga areas.
The release also mentioned that the Naga Hoho has been repeatedly appealing to the Government of Manipur and the Government of India to respect the genuine rights of the Naga people. But they have turned a deaf ear to the genuine cry of the people till today by allowing to exploit the common people, it rued.
The Naga Hoho delegation met Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju and the Joint Secretary Ministry of Home Affairs in-charge of North East on November 30 and December 1 respectively and apprised them about the crisis in Manipur, seeking their intervention, the release said.
If Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and the Government of India fail to redress the situation, they will be held responsible for any untoward situation in the future, the Naga Hoho warned.
