[dropcap]F[/dropcap]or a long time now assertions at different degrees by varied interests are at play in the Northeast region. These pulls and pushes are creating the atmosphere murkier and confusing. The pulls from the state actors and the pushes from the ‘groups’ at various levels have resulted in the evolvement of a fence-sitting category thereby making the demarcation line between the agendas of confronting parties blurred. We find it hard to distinguish which individual sits which side of the fence. Due to the high complexity of the situation an individual sitting in one side of the fence can also be found sitting in the other side. In each case the individual has good reasons that justify his position and we often get away convinced by the individual’s explanation. In short, our society is fast acquiring the character of Dr. Jekyll in the book The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde written by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson in 1886.In most of the states in the Northeast region you will find public leaders and outfits strongly advocating for what they call ‘to protect our people’. But it has become a common sight that these elements engage in activities pushing against the principle of what they preach. In each case they are again armed with convincing reasons explaining things in terms of rationality and irrationality. Things which are hard for them to follow are stashed in the category of irrationality. This engagement of convenience is in fact the main problem. We are not here to oppose this trend or endorse the other. Our concern is the growing confusion among the people which is giving a life of hardship and making people to live on the edge.
Though we diagnosed today that ours is the case of victims become victimizers or victims to victimizers to regain the right spirit in addressing our problem is going to be quite a task.
