Dimapur, March 10 (EMN): The governor of Nagaland PB Acharya has expressed appreciation for the contribution and achievements of the women of Nagaland, and the country in general, calling them a ‘gift of God.’
The message of the governor was contained in a handout from Raj Bhavan marking International Women’s Day.
Acharya has also appealed to the people of Nagaland to make ‘Beti Bachhao, Beti Padhao’ (Hindi for save girl child, educate girl child) movement a success. They are urged to adopt at least one schoolgirl by contributing INR 3000. They may make the donation to (account number) 35843617072; SBI, Kohima main branch, in favour of the Beti Bachhao, Beti Padhao Scheme.
He said interested persons may also contact the phone number 0370 2245789 for further details. Acharya has thanked sponsors of 220 girls from the previous year. Acharya has appealed to the newly formed state government to provide women vegetable vendors clean and secure kiosks at a nominal rate.
In his message, Acharya stated that women have played pivotal role in building the nation and have been contributing to the progress of the society in every field. He reminded that empowerment of women and equality, liberty, and dignity were sacred rights of women. He termed women a ‘gift of God.’
Further, calling International Women’s Day an opportunity to highlight the progress that had been made toward achieving gender equality, Acharya called upon the people to reflect on how all can make the Naga society ‘more just and equitable’ for women and to celebrate the women who have achieved extraordinary things.
Acharya has conveyed appreciation to all women ‘who are the backbone of the society.’
