Dimapur, July 2 (EMN): An accurate Economic Census is the litmus test for future planning, said Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon, deputy commissioner of Wokha district, during a district level coordination committee meeting on the 7th Economic Census.
Samoon, who is also the chairman of the committee for Wokha, conducted the meeting, on July 2, in his office chamber.
The District’s Economic & Statistics Officer A Chubathung Ezung said in his opening remarks that the main objective of the Economic Census and enumeration was to include a complete count of all establishments located within the geographical boundary of the district.
The census is to provide disaggregated information on various operational and structural variables of all establishments in the district such as the number of establishments, type of ownership, source of finance, number of persons employed there etc.
The economic census is also to provides valuable insights into economic activities, ownership pattern, persons engaged etc. of all economic establishments in the district.
Ezung explained that the census will cover all establishments including household enterprises engaged in production or distribution of goods and services in non-firm agricultural and non-agricultural sector etc.
“He also said that the database collected also serves as a sample line frame for drawing samples for socio-economic survey by Government and research organizations. This information is used for micro level or decentralization planning, and to assess contribution of various sectors of economy in Gross Domestic Product,” the IPR stated.
The district manager, CSC, Chenibemo Ngullie said the district has appointed 72 census enumerators and 27 census supervisors for the 7th Economic Census to conduct house to house enumeration. The census is expected to be completed within three months, the IPR added.
