Dimapur, Oct.30 (EMN): The Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation (Acaut) has, on Wednesday, reminded about the resolutions adopted at a public rally in protest against “unabated taxation.” In a press statement, ACAUT stated that the “One government one tax” resolution which was passed during the rally held at City Tower in Dimapur on October 31, 2013, was once again reiterated by the Public Action Committee (PAC) during a public rally on October 31, 2018.
“This unabated taxation is one of the primary causes of fratricide among Naga brothers,” read the statement
ACAUT along with the state government also set up a High Powered Commission (HPC) to “delve into the whole gamut of illegal taxation.” The commission, which was headed by HK Sema, submitted a report in 2015. It, however, stated “no executive order has been issued for the implementation of the findings and recommendations of the HPC,” it read.
The resolution also aimed to expedite the Indo-Naga peace talk by organising the ‘Common Platform’ on September 12, 2015 against “the backdrop of the signing of the Framework Agreement.” It further stated that on August 27, 2017 the resolution adopted during “ACAUT mother of all rallies” was to urge the Government of India to “expedite the political process for early and lasting political solution to the protracted Naga political problem by inviting all Naga political groups without further delay.”
“The vision statement of ACAUT states that the Naga villages are the real depository of authority and power in Naga society.” Therefore, in order to settle the Naga political issue, the voice of the Nagas must be heard through a ‘referendum’, read the statement.
