Dimapur, November 23: The ACAUT Nagaland has appreciated the print media for their wise decision in support of the clean election initiative, saying “we reckon that this could be a turning point in the war against electoral malpractice”.
The media cell, ACUAT, in a release, on Wednesday said the Naga people’s fight for “Clean Election” got the most vital boost from the print media with the decision of the editors of all the seven newspapers of Nagaland not to publish any advertisements or news material by village councils or non-political organisations that seek to declare their support for any particular candidate.Calling the media as the backbone of social change, the ACAUT said such a decision should lead to further popular upsurge against the present electoral trend in the State where purchased mandate has become the norm. In the war against electoral malpractice, where everyone is a stakeholder, the NBCC’s “Clean Election Campaign” has received a much needed shot in the arm, it further stated.
The release also informed that the ACAUT too has written to the chairmen of all the 1200-odd villages in the State to shun electoral malpractice and to collectively clean up the 4 lakh bogus electorate - as admitted by the ECI on September 28.
