Dimapur, June 17
DISGUSTED by the news item “GPRN/NSCN Lotha Region bans contractor” published on June 16, the ACAUT Nagaland has said that GPRN/NSCN Lotha Region has tried to play with the sentiments of the Naga people by whipping up the issue of poor quality workmanship and that it could stoop so low to tarnish the image of its organization. The ACAUT also urged the GPRN/NSCN to disown the statement of its Lotha Region and issue a public apology.
Media Cell, ACAUT in a press statement today said the headline caught the attention of the Naga people and in an almost delusional sort of way people were led to believe that GRPN/NSCN had stepped in for the interest of the public and check corruption in developmental activities in the state.
“M/S Vilelie Khamo & Sons has taken the right decision not to make the payment and boldly go public with the sms threat. Vilelie Khamo is a bonafide member of Nagaland 1st Class Government Contractors Union, a professional body which in its meeting held with ACAUT Nagaland had resolved to uphold the “One Government One Tax” resolution passed by the Naga people on 31st October,” the statement said adding, “If indeed the quality of the road is poor as alleged, then the issue is genuine and has to be tackled appropriately by all concerned including the right of intervention by the NPGs.
However, it becomes apparent from the sms sent to the contractor that the motive of the GPRN/NSCN Lotha Region is to extract money from the contractor. Trying to extract Rs. 8.50 lakhs from the contractor simply because he has withdrawn Rs. 1.70 crores for the work done is shameless.”
The ACAUT said, any threats and intimidations against Vilelie would be condemnable and that ACAUT would fully support the contractor on this issue.
Angami orgs caution UGs for diktat to contractor
Apex Angami tribal organizations have cautioned the armed underground group GPRN/NSCN with ‘non cooperation’ and clamp on the group’s activities in all southern Angami regions following a diktat served to a local contractor. The Southern Angami Public Organization (SAPO) and the Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO) issued a joint press statement today denouncing the threat and attempt to extort from the contractor, Vilie Khamo & Sons.
The two organizations called the underground groups’ diktat “malicious” with “vexatious attitude to tarnish one’s personal image.” The two organizations stated to have reviewed both the statements of the contractor and the group and “found that the allegation put against him by the GPRN/NSCN Lotha region was well purely founded callousness with vexatious attitude.”
“The SAPO and SAYO shall not cooperate with the GPRN/NSCN unless the case is resolved amicably and to desist all activities within the southern Angami area,” the statement said.
NCSU asks GPRN/NSCN to prove claims within one week
AN irate Nagaland Contractors & Suppliers’ Union has asked the underground group GPRN / NSCN to substantiate one week, its allegations against a local contractor of providing “sub standard and unfit” work. The NCSU issued a statement today making clear that the whole issue was from the extortion demand made to the contractor for Rs 8.50 lakhs as so-called “5% commission.”
“This is a matter of serious concern and in good spirit the NCSU would request the GPRN / NSCN Lotha region to substantiate its allegations within one week time,” the contractors ‘ organization stated in a press release received here on Tuesday, June 17.
“In fact today the contractors in Nagaland are facing undue hardships from all kinds of unabated taxation and commission, hampering the activities of the contractors,” the union stated. The underground groups are told to “understand” the difficulties they are going through in their course of developing the state and the people.
The union has also asked the government and the PWD department to publicly clarify the allegations within one week. “The allegation of GPRN / NSCN Lotha region that the work executed by M / s Vilelie Khamo & Sons was found ‘sub standard and unfit’ and that the ‘contractor be blacklisted and he would not be allowed to execute contract works in the Lotha region was not justified, hasty and drastic,” the contractors’ organization stated. “This is because of the fact that the matter raised as above rests with the state government department of PWD and therefore, the NCSU demand from the concerned department to publicly clarify the aid allegations within seven days,” the union stated.
